What Are Braces?
Braces are a type of dental appliance that are used to straighten teeth. There are two main reasons why you may need to correct your teeth. Either for functional or cosmetic reasons.
Some of the most common complaints we see:
- Teeth crowding
- Wonky or crooked teeth
- Misaligned teeth (malocclusion)
- Over/cross/under bites
Initially we will need to see you at a dental assessment so we can determine which type of brace will be the most suitable for you. To start your journey to straight teeth, please do not hesitate to call us today.

Modern Braces
Braces have really evolved over the years. They are now made to be more discrete and comfortable so the whole experience of straightening your teeth is more enjoyable.
Why Would You Want To Straighten Your Teeth?
As mentioned above, the two main types of patients we see fall into either the functional or cosmetic category.
Functional – when we talk about functional issues, there is an ideal way your teeth should meet (occlusion). If you don’t have the ideal occlusion, then you may be more susceptible to dental complications. It can be harder to clean and maintain your teeth. Teeth will be prone to wear down quicker, which can eventually lead to chips or cracks in the teeth. You may experience various types of dental pain and even potentially have TMJ pain.
In these instances, teeth straightening may be advisable so you can achieve and maintain your dental health.
Cosmetic – If you are unhappy with the aesthetics of your teeth in terms of straightness and there is no functional reason to have braces, you would fall in the cosmetic category. When we talk about improving the looks of our smile, there may be multiple treatments that can help achieve this goal.
We will assess your teeth in the first instance and will listen to what you are unhappy about. We will discuss what treatments are suitable to achieve your goals. We believe the first part of patient care is to always listen to what our patients are telling us.
